A Holiday Message from Master Garrison
Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburg Steelers football on TV and a dog on my lap: what could be better? There is a minor dilemma as Mrs. G. is an avid “Steeler fan” and since I was associated with the Raiders during their glory years of the late 60’s, I am a “Raider believer”.
Integral aspects of Pacific Rim’s daily training are the recitation of the class pledge and Ki breathing. The pledge gives thanks for a place to train and our training partners while the breathing exercises not only help us relax and prepare us for practice but they also allow us to give thanks for our health and for the support we get to be able to devote time for training.
This time of year is designated as “the holiday season” It is a time when families get together and devote more time to acknowledging each other. It is a time to reflect. While I try to express my appreciation for Mrs. G. regularly, I know I fall short. I also know that while I have good intentions of thanking Pacific Rim and WOMAF members for their dedication I do not do so as often as I should.
I am eternally grateful to Mr. Kim for the doors he unlocked and opened for me. While he has never let me express my appreciation, I believe that in his heart he understands my feelings for him. To Mrs. G., Pacific Rim students and WOMAF members: Thank you.
For the three loving champions, one who remains on my lap, thank you for teaching me patience while demonstrating the loyalty and tenacity of world class athletes. Mrs. G. and I are truly blessed!
Mrs. G. and I wish each of you and your families good health and happiness during this holiday season.
Grand Master James R. Garrison, 9th DAN
Vice-President, WOMAF
